Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817 - May 6, 1862) was an American tax resister, anti-war activist, essayist and author, most famous for his book Walden, about living close to Nature, and his influential treatise on civil disobedience (Civil Disobedience), which inspired Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King.
